We wonder why so many of our kids aren't graduating. . . it comes down to 3 keys- Accountability, Expectations and Relationships. We want to say that our schools have these woven throghout the halls and classrooms but do they really? Guess what? You can't hold people accountable or set expectations for them and they'll be receptive to without having a longterm, meaningful and positive relationship with them. If this is true with people, why do we think it's any different with kids? They're people too. Think about the relationships (people) in your life that hold you accountable or vice versa. Who's expectations of us really carry weight? Did you just meet that person this past August? My wife and I are still working on these things and we've only known each other for about 8 years. It's about time we wake up and begin structuring our schools to foster longterm relationships between our kids and teachers. Stop passing them onto other teachers year after year when we know this isn't working. This definately isn't rocket science!!
